Oil paint and gesso on wood, 21 x 29.7 cm (A4)            2012-13

September 2010: M moves to Mexico. I want to make work which articulates my response, but it seems just out of my grasp. In my understanding of the situation there is a blurring between the real and the imagined; between daytime and nocturnal thoughts and between past, present and future events.
'We may not be here tomorrow'  My last day in Mexico;  I'm aware of the quiet protests that have been taking place in the hot streets; I come across  two men sitting in a gazebo, playing songs which could be love songs,  but my small understanding of Spanish tells me they have a political theme;  a brave attempt to raise awareness or foster change.  I sit for a while, a foreign woman alone with my camera, knowing that tomorrow things will be different.
